“Okay… what should I be offering?” The answer will depend on your clients — and your photographic genre . Each genre requires different presentation. For example, a wedding photographer, with potential sales of hundreds of images, will require completely different products from a landscape specialist offering images intended for wall display. Bear in mind too that the most appropriate printing isn't just a personal preference but will depend on the products you want to offer. For example, we recommend silver halide over inkjet for applications where To View More >>

We get it — in the age of social media, digital files feel like the norm. Especially in the wedding world, they’re generally expected. Couples want to share their big day right away, and portrait clients love the idea of having “all the photos.” But if we stop there, we’re not just shortchanging ourselves — we’re shortchanging them. Here’s why: Digital is fleeting. Print is forever. Digital images are shared for a moment and then forgotten, buried in a sea of phone photos and cloud storage. Prints become treasures. Albums become stories passed on. To View More >>

The following are our end of year deadlines, designed to ensure that you'll receive your orders in time for Christmas, and with low stress. They're important because our order volumes increase by 2-3 times over the holiday period and we want to be certain we can meet your delivery requirements. As we all know, couriers will also be extremely busy so please allow plenty of time for shipping. Someone asked the other day why some photographers using Print Shop seem to be selling their prints “quite cheaply”. "I can understand that there is potentially volume in art prints that isn't there with portraits. But I still wonder how a client might feel if the price is significantly lower for an art print." I think there are a few questions here — does the difference in price matter? Are people undercharging? — and anyway, how much should you charge? I'll leave the last one for later, but meantime… 1. Why might you need to charge differently for your art versus To View More >>

Updated 18 October 2020 "Happy Holidays!" – They'll be on us faster than we think, and your clients will definitely want their books, boxes, albums, frames, canvases and prints in good time. "Go to the front of the line!" — that's what we recommend every year. Our orders go up 3-400% before Christmas, and, since most of what we do is handmade to order, we publish these guidelines in the interests of a low-stress lead-up to the holidays. Don't worry though — these are guidelines, not deadlines. We  generally get orders out that we receive  way  To View More >>

We saw this album with photography by Simon Darby of Wanaka Photography as it went through the Bindery. It showcases not just beautiful photography of Kate and James' lovely wedding, but the stunning New Zealand landscape. Wanaka is a tourist and holidaymaker destination, and the subject of much iconic New Zealand photography. The album also shows some of the features that make our Duo unique. The album has a Buckram Carbon cover with Futura embossing. The matted pages are Pagemount style, with a keyline around the prints created by carefully hand trimming To View More >>

You've seen Amanda King's By the Horns photographs in large format prints, but they look so dramatic in albums too! This is a 15x12 vertical Q-Book Medium with offset printing on Tintoretto to give that textured, watercolour look.  The creamy, 'Eggshell' cover is a vegan-friendly micro leather, appropriate considering the subject matter. ( Amanda, who's based in Canterbury, New Zealand, says anybody who knows her will tell you of her love for animals. "If only I could keep them all as pets.") UPDATED: corrected an error with the Faux Leather selection. We're getting ready to introduce new cover material and embossing options, and we're pretty excited about it. But first we need to say goodbye to some of the existing range. It's hard turning our back on things we love, but we need to make way for the new. And normally the reason is simple … not enough sales. The good news is that the discontinued materials will be available "while stocks last". We just won't be reordering them, and we won't be including them in our swatches, which we're To View More >>
